Child Sexual Abuse Prevention - PLEASE HELP!

As some of you may know, I'm involved with several charities and organizations throughout Miami and South Florida. Over the past couple of years I have been involved with a very
special organization, Kristi House.

Kristi House serves as the coordinating organization for Miami-Dade's Children's Advocacy Center. Their efforts and initiatives within Miami are very dear to my heart as their primary focus is on
children that have been sexually abused and their families. At Kristi House, families are able to receive help, information and most importantly therapy for the child (victim).

I have a great love and affinity for children and believe no child or person should be subjected to any violence or any abuse. Sexual abuse not only leaves physical damage but often leaves years of psychological and emotional damage. The psychological and emotional scarring will always be there even after physical damage has healed. In my experiences with these children, I've learned their stories, their torments and pain. Someone stole from them a piece of their innocence.

What continues to trouble my heart is that the subject of child sexual abuse is still an untouched subject within our community. The victims are scared to talk about, families in many cases don't want to hear it or believe it and for the ones that have, many don't know what to do about. I'm sure we all know by now, a problem won't stop if you don't start by addressing the issue and doing something about it. This is where Kristi House helps.

My role with Kristi House is to help create an awareness of these issues and to help the voice of these victims (children) be heard.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention month and also the launch for Kristi's House "Breaking the Silence" Campaign. Please help me spread the word so that we may increase the awareness within our city and its communities.

Unlike most organizations, Kristi House is a local organization that welcomes those in the community interested in doing work with them or learning about the organization to visit their facility so that they can see first hand how their work with victims is beneficial.

All donations will be submitted through Pay Pal to a Wachovia account and then a check from Wachovia will be made out to Kristi House on May 1, 2010.
