Event Description

It’s the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and Bayfront Park will once again host Miami Goin’ Green, an eco-friendly celebration on Saturday April 24, 2010. The free event that’s scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will offer live entertainment, hands-on activities for the entire family and close to 80 green exhibitors.

Last year, it drew close to 10,000 people, and organizers plan to exceed those numbers by providing unique exhibitors and an Eco-stage showcasing live performances throughout the day. In addition, it will offer a variety of presentations and seminars covering everything from the fun and light-hearted to serious discussions regarding sustainability. Miami Goin’ Green’s friendly interactive activities include:

 U.S. Gas & Electric Bike Valet and Wash – Bike your way to Miami’s Bayfront Park and your bike will be taken care of at this valet.

 Dress for Success Miami Presents the Fashion Forward Exchange–Bring lightly worn items that you no longer wear such as suits, dresses, shoes, purses and belts in order to swap them for items that you will wear. Anything that’s left over will go to Dress for Success, a non-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire.

 Alternative Fuel Alley – Take a stroll down this alley to see electric cars and other high-efficiency vehicles.

 Jungle Island Experience – Enjoy the animal performances brought to you by your favorite jungle, and visit their horticulture area to see how green you can get without the use of pesticides.

 Hybrid Test Drives – For those non-green vehicle owners looking to make the switch, check out highly efficient vehicles on display and available for test drives.

 Secure Paper Shredding - Bring in your documents for hassle-free, complimentary secure shredding.

 MiaSci MadLab – It’s the place for children to take part in mad science experiments presented by the Miami Science Museum.

 eWaste Drop Off – This tech recycling station will collect old tech items that require special disposal such as batteries, cell phones, computers and monitors.

 Traditional Recycling Stations – Discard paper, plastic and aluminum cans at one of several stations throughout the park.

In addition to this event, Miami Goin' Green will celebrate Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary on Thursday April 22 by attempting a Solar-powered ocean crossing from the Bahamas to Miami on a green catamaran. This type of crossing is the first of its kind on a retail boat. Because event-organizers strive to reduce, reuse and recycle, Miami Goin' Green will operate on 100% alternative fuel with solar-power and bio-diesel generators. For more information about the event and solar-powered ocean crossing, please visit www.MiamiGoinGreen.com.
