Event Description

80 Minute is proud to present "Lil Haiti: Love Thy
Neighbor," the sequel to the critically acclaimed stage play "Lil
Haiti: The Untold Story." "Lil Haiti: Love Thy Neighbor,"
written by Damien McKnight and directed by Yonel Aris will be a one day
performance, debuting Saturday, November 12th, 2011, at the Joseph Caleb Center
 5400 N.W. 22nd Avenue, Miami, Fl.
Showtime at 8pm.

"Lil Haiti: Love Thy Neighbor" offers an intimate
glimpse into Lil Haiti -- an enclave of Miami and home to over 30,000 Haitian
residents. Right over the bridge from Miami Beach, Lil Haiti embodies the
complex realities of a community that is located just minutes from
"paradise" in terms of its geography, yet economically and socially
-- it is eons away. "Lil Haiti: Love Thy Neighbor" explores these
complexities through the eyes of the play's main character -- James Pierre, a
Haitian immigrant and local hustler who rises through the ranks to become the
"King (pin) of Lil Haiti." He fall is in love with Sara, a
Black-American girl whose father vehemently disapproves. Sara's father, a well
respected high school principle, moved his family to Lil Haiti with one purpose
in mind -- to save Miami Edison High School (which has an eighty percent
Haitian population) from being closed due to low test scores. But Mr. Taylor
got more than he bargained for. His move to the new community would challenge
him to save an already strained relationship with his daughter, while coming
face to face with James, a student he kicked out of school many years ago.
Through unexpected twists of fate, "Lil Haiti: Love Thy Neighbor"
takes the viewer on a journey through the gritty streets of Lil Haiti, where
along the way they experience love, struggle-- and even redemption.
