Event Description

everyone is keeping warm!! :)
Unfortunately, not all us are lucky... this morning, January 7, 2010 a homeless man was found dead at Bicentenial Park apparently, among other things, due to the cold weather. This weekend is suppose to be colder, low to mid 30's. In an effort to pass it forward, and possibly help some of our neighbors physically living in and around Bayfront Park and the surrounding areas, we will be collecting blankets, socks, comforters, etc. (it doesn't matter how old they are, and even if they have holes, those are usually the most cozy). We would appreciate your bringing them to this Friday's concert event. I will be passing by and picking them up, in an effort to pass them out to the needy tomorrow night for this upcoming weekend's and weeks cold spell. If you need to get in touch with me, my direct phone number is 786.439.5678 maria elena. God bless all of you and yours and may this New Year bring many, many good things! :)

Thanks to everyone that dropped things off for the distribution tonight. FYI - should other people be interested in dropping things off but could not make it to the concert tonight, please feel free to drop it off at the concierge desk at 50 Biscayne, let them know it's for 2601. We will be taking things to people tonight and tomorrow night. Have a great weekend and thanks for helping out!! God bless :)

I just can't see how letting the homeless suffer and die from cold weather can be the solution to any problem... That's just wrong! See you all later at the concert.

Reality check hits you as time passes and you realize that the people that are homeless in this economic downturn are not those most people would imagine. I passed out coats donated to us last night and found a couple nestled in a corner with their laptop and cell phone actively replying regarding jobs. These people lost their home, their children, thank God, are staying with friends in another state. They believe they can readjust at some point an make it in South Florida again. If you haven't noticed, Florida is among the top 3 states with the highest unemployment rate. We're not talking about tourist being diverted from Downtown. We're talking about being human. There are many, many intelligent, hard working people, like, hopefully, you and I that need our help. Let's not make more of this than it really is. If you feel it makes you think twice don't contribute, this is not a hand out, this is passing it forward, because reality is, this could be a reflection of what we pass on to our next generation if we don't fix it. For those that believe in passing it forward, see you tonight! God bless! :)

"people flock to miami beach for a full night of fun and entertainment, while downtown businesses struggle to keep afloat"

Tourists, passerbys, ppl that live in other parts scattered around South Florida go to the beach

Washington Ave- Notorious for fly by night clubs/entertainment

During economic dead spells- Beach takes the worst hit while business in DT/Brickell are consistent and afloat (not a tourist attraction)

Girl getting raped walking from one club to the next behind some alley in the Beach- Common

In DT/Brickell- Can someone find me a recent article?

This lady has a heart and so do we, though I will not attend due to the fact that most foreign students that I and my staff have interacted with feel unsafe and a good portion of them have said they will not be coming or buying anytime soon. We do not need these perverted homeless and alcoholics strolling around because we continue to supply them with ammunition. We need to think about how we can draw money spenders into this part of town. Lets keep the feelings out and think with our heads. People are still scared to come into downtown. Instead, people flock to miami beach for a full night of fun and entertainment, while downtown businesses struggle to keep afloat because these people are lingering throughout most street corner, flipping over and scavenging trash cans in broad daylight and shoving their act towards most people they see in front of them. Lets break out of the spell, good things will come if we vote out. (I opt out on this one.)
