One One Two! Miami's Unofficial 112th Surprise Birthday Bash! (Save The Date Notice Only)

On July 26th, Camposition Artistic Director Octavio Campos, Ralph de la Portilla and Theresa Amandi host One-One-Two: Imagine Miami Reborn, a fiercely irreverent birthday homage to the City of Miami, a city that has tormented and tantalized artists and residents alike for over a century. This event is a benefit for Camposition, Miami’s most progressive producer of hybrid performance. One-One-Two will feature performances and exhibits by a cutting-edge Who’s Who of Miami artists.

Last year's "One One One" celebration was so raucous that Miami City Hall could not help but notice what was happening at the Jose Marti Building. As a result this year’s One-One-Two event has been adopted as the City of Miami’s official unofficial birthday bash.

One-One-Two is a surprise party celebrating the birth of Miami 112 years ago when the city charter was adopted. The party takes as its theme Miami’s Underground Folklore—all those cultural curiousities that have spontaneously emerged from our region’s melting pot and made this metropolis such a fascinating place.

The celebration is being sponsored by Miami New Times, My Space Latino & Tinta y Café and many others, including performances, visual art, and installations that re-imagine the history of the metropolis on the occasion of its 112th birthday. The roster of artists is HUGE and we are proud to announce our Headlining Musical Act this year: BLOWFLY!!!!!!!!

The event will take place The Jose Marti Building, 801 SW 3rd Avenue, home of 801 Projects. This party is a benefit for Camposition’s 2007-2008 season. The festivities commence at 9:00 pm and the cover charge is only TEN DOLLARS!!
And Cocktails will be sold at VERY REASONABLE PRICES to relieve your aching wallets from the gas pumps...
On July 28, 1896, the City of Miami was incorporated on a site almost exactly 1,111 yards from the site of the festivities. On that day, 344 residents voted to incorporate (largely as a measure to help abolish public nudity and excrement in the streets). As part of the One-One-Two celebration, 344 select Miamians will be asked to re-enact that vote—at the exact hour (shortly after 10:00pm) of the original vote 112 years earlier. This “re-incorporation vote” will affirm faith in the Miami vision for another year…until the One-One-Three celebration the following year and every year thereafter in perpetuity.

The host and creator of One-One-Two is native Miamian Ralph de la Portilla, best known as co-creator of Fuacata! in Little Havana, USA and Camposition Board Member.
