Who's your neighbor?

Does anyone know why they're repeatedly tearing up different parts of Mary Brickell Village?

Also, there is a sign advertised for an LA Fitness. Does anyone know when this will open?

What are they tearing up? Not sure what you're talking about...

Haven't heard about the LA Fitness, but that should be a nice addition!
I work right next door and highly doubt they will be open even by Mar 09. They have a sales office that still isn't finished with its buildout (has taken at least 3-4 months for that) and no construction work has commenced on the gym itself. (which will take another 3-4 months at least) I called LA Fitness in So. Miami last week and they said this gym is a "premier" facility with memberships starting in the $80 range. Doesn't look like they have room for a pool either, but not sure abou that. Will be great if they ever get around to opening it, as there are no other reasonably priced good gyms anywhere in the area.
It's a shame that a lot of these retail units are sitting vacant. I guess there just isn't enough foot traffic in Mary Brickell Village to generate sufficient business.

I heard they were even putting some businesses in there with free rent just to get things moving.
Actually, I've heard 6 more stores will open within 30 to 45 days, A womens swim and active wear store, a gift store, chocolate store, Salad Creations, a vitamin store, Floral shop,

Also, I was around 9th street and first avenue and saw Publix almost complete. They said it will open in 30 to 45 days too.. That's excellent!!!!!
It's pretty crazy that there will be 3 Publix stores in such a small area. The current ones are always packed, so I guess they are just trying to meet the demand. I personally drive up to the one on Biscayne and 50 something street. It is usually not as packed and I think prices may even be lower.

Careful. They take your money, promise you open dates, use your money to pay for the equipment or the fliers they are putting on your car, and pay no interest. Just called the corporate office and they said "sorry but we are trying our best to open" while the manager at the sales office, leans back in his chair and laughs about "maybe next week". The best thing you can do is put your money in the bank and wait for them to open. At this rate they will have so many cancellations that they will take whatever they can to get people in the membership. Do not waist your time or money until they actually open the doors. Instead, go to Dubail Fitness down the street and have Dave and the guys get you in shape. 305.859.2345 Best thing I ever did and half the price of these large club trainers. I use them even when I join one of these big clubs.

Best of luck.
I'm an LA Fitness member and they said the Mary Brickell gym should be open some time in April.
LA Fitness has continued to push back the open date and has been getting a lot of complaints because of this. I work at the Sports Club/La and it is a beautiful, clean, and classy club located in the Four Seasons tower on Brickell ave. If you are looking for a great place to work out with the best staff and members in town, then you should come here. We are not as highly priced as you might think and we have the most to offer out of any fitness club in the area. If you are interested in membership I can personally take care of you. Feel free to contact me for more info at 305-533-1199 ext 7902. My name is Nicole and I hope I can get some of you guys into our club to see what we got going on!
I signed up for the Signature club at the end of Jan. I was told the gym would open up in 6 weeks. Paid the high initiation fee plus the signature club rate with the promise they'd be open in the middle of March. In the meantime, I used the Sunset location. Being in Brickell, the drive was horrible, the bikes (for cycling class) were taken before I'd even I'd get there. Each time I'd talk to the sales person about when the gym was going to open, I'd get "two weeks later". It was finally at the end of March when I could see that there was no way they'd be open by Easter that I asked for a refund on my initiation fee (since I paid the Premium price for a premium place) and the difference in the club membership pricing. What a nightmare it was to do that. Still fighting the ridiculous fees. The corporation told me they'd be open on April 20. It is now April 13 and there is no way this gym is opening in a week. I checked the place out this morning and there is still flooring, ceiling tiles, walls, etc to go in. No equipment nor is there even a schedule.

I have joined the Sport Club LA and what a difference. I highly recommend it. Just the cycling instructors alone are so much better. If you want a premium club with excellent service, I highly recommend this club.

As previous post, wait until the gym opens before you pay your initial fee. They might threaten you will higher fee but trust me, it's better than signing up and not getting what you are promised.
