Why read my bio? You must be generally interested in my life, not just my professional history. So while I have your attention…
Born to Cuban parents, with Spanish and Italian ancestry, I was dubbed an elegant and unique first name, Gianni. This name has inspired many things within me, mostly seeking out what is not local or common. Early on my family strived to coerce me into a traditional profession.
In 1995 I graduated from an all boys’ catholic high school and headed to the nearest community college. A year later I would find myself in Florence Italy absorbing the culture and studying art history. My father once told me that the day I set foot in the land of my ancestry I would not feel homesick and I would feel one with Italy’s people, he was right.
I came back five weeks later to my hometown, Miami, which was bustling with a vibrant night club scene. This is when my journey into commercial art began. From designing the proverbial club flyer and managing the promotions of a literally “underground” night club / restaurant, I knew that the culmination of business and design would ultimately lead me to my life’s passion.
With no knowledge of how to start my journey, I drove 45 miles to art school for three years. Graduated, got a $12 job at an ISP designing websites and digested a 500+ book on programming ColdFusion. Three months later, skipped from one defunct DOT.COM startup to the next. Then settled down at Alienware as their first art director. Redesigned their logo, their site and hired some people. Managed all their advertising in every major computer magazine at the time. So not being satisfied. I left…
Got a job at a company called Luminaire. If you like high end furniture from the likes of Citerrio, Haddid, Arad, and the rest of the gang then you’d love Luminaire. I created some very interesting flash presentations and online invitations, some of it shown as backdrops for these fellows I mentioned above. In the mean time, I was keeping an eye on Aliewnare. Saw the logo I had redesigned and it was wrong… WHAT! Ok bye bye Luminaire after to years. “Here I come Alienware.”
My department grew to more than 10 people and while I wasn’t the creative head honcho anymore, I helped get the department standardized in their asset management and helped launched a couple of computers.
A year later, I had my first son and decided that having a son was not enough of a stressful situation… I went off on my own. And hence… you are here reading about me and LIFT HERE.
Now with over 6 years of being in the creative world I realized why I became a creative. I get to meet people like you and learn about your businesses, your aspirations, and I get to ride your journey. But most of all I get to see you smile when I hit you with a great idea.
