What a terrible shame that such a beautiful place can be so terribly managed.
Although the food was terrific, the management is so glaringly awful that they have certainly just decorated the space for the next owner.
Sad, pathetic details below...
As a volunteer for a non-profit organization, the General Manager promised to host our organization for a happy hour a month later. Three days later, that General Manager was fired and we were handed off to an Events person. After 3 unanswered phone calls (between 2pm and 5pm, not during lunch or dinner service), I made a personal appearance. Again, I was told yes, but a final approval was required from the owner, Luis . As details were to be hammered out, there was NO response from MIA in over 10 days. An e-mail sent directly to the owner received a response, "This is the first that I've heard of it", I'll cc our general manager and we will get it done.
Three days before the event, with invitations out, another personal visit was necessary because they did not return phone calls. This time, the GM Eduardo Gato, told the hostest that "he was in a meeting", I sat at the bar patiently waiting. After 10 minutes, it became obvious that the guy sitting next to me at the bar was Eduardo Gato...not the in the meeting Eduardo Gato, but the one that said he was in a meeting when he was really just talking to the attractive bartender.
When the hostess saw me sitting next to him, she pulled him aside and told him that I was the guy that stopped by for him. After finally meeting with me, he assured me that we had enough time and staff, and everything would be okay if the boss approves it.
The next day a high level representative from the organization called to speak with Eduardo Gato, the receptionist answered the phone, but just put the receiver down, not on hold. Uh oh...the caller heard a man say, "Tell her I'm in a meeting, I don't have time for this S*** now."
Okay. MIA event cancelled. Fortunately, Miami Chophouse did a fantastic event on very short notice.

A simple "NO" from the beginning would have been appropriate and understandable if they didn't want to do it or were incapable of hosting 100 people on Friday at 4:30pm.
As someone with years in the restaurant and hospitality industry, I can tell you (and will tell everyone!) that the way that they handled this situation was unacceptable.

After ranting about this experience with the Executive Board, another board member approached and said, "I was afraid of this. They screwed over two other organizations the exact same way. I didn't say anything, because they are new and we should all give them another chance."
Strike three.

Unless there is an "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT" sign hanging over the doors, I'll never walk through those doors again.
