Event Description

City offers you a FREE Ride to becoming a Safer, Better, More Confident Urban cyclist.

Bike Miami Rides is the latest community event organized by the Mayor's Office to encourage residents and visitors to ride their bicycles for fun and for transportation.

This Sunday, July 19th, bring your bike, helmet and a water bottle, to Legion Memorial Park (6559 Biscayne Blvd- behind the NET Office) and learn the basics of better cycling before heading out for a 2 hour bicycle ride through Miami's Historic MiMo, Little Haiti, Buena Vista neighborhoods and the Design District.

No registration is required and the ride is completely FREE.
You'll ride with City of Miami Police from their Bicycle Unit, City Staff and Volunteers. The police will not be 'escorting' us, but they will show us the right way to share the road and take the lane as appropriate.

Volunteers will guide you through
- The"A-B-C Quick Check": how to check your bicycle's Air, Brakes and Chain for road-readiness.
- Helmet Fitting: how to fit your bicycle helmet for optimum safety.
- The Rules, Rights and Responsibilities of Cyclists and Motorists on Florida roadways

At the end of the ride, participants are invited to join the City of Miami Bicycle Coordinator, members of the City of Miami Bicycle Action Committee, City staff and volunteers for lunch. Destination is to be determined.

The meetup point is the local City of Miami NET Office located at Legion Memorial Park, a beautiful waterfront park in the heart of the Miami Modern (MiMo) Historic District. There is abundant on-street car and bicycle parking in the area. The group will meet in the shaded area just behind the NET office (6599 Biscayne Blvd).

Bike Miami Days (and Rides) is an initiative by Mayor Diaz to promote community, livable streets, bicycling and walking. All official events are free, family-friendly and require no registration.

Bike Miami Rides require a bicycle. If you do not own a bicycle, you may rent one from a local bike shop for the day. Please contact your local bicycle shop for details - you can find your local shop right here on Yelp!

See you and your friends this Sunday!

This sounds like a great idea and a lot of fun... but I grew up in NYC and therefore never learned how to ride a bike. My grandpa saw the bike messengers and said it was way too dangerous for his only grandbaby to do what they do. This sounds like the kind of event that might have changed his mind back in the day! I hope it helps people! Have fun!
